Job Vacancy – Deputy Legal Manager
Our client in the insurance industry that consistently provides innovative, unique, and affordable products and services that exceed customers’ expectations, is seeking to recruit a highly talented and dynamic professional to fill in the following position based at the Head Office, Nairobi.
DEPUTY LEGAL MANAGER
Reporting to the Legal Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that all legal matters are attended to in the right manner thus protecting the company’s image, ensuring client satisfaction as well as minimizing costs in claims processing, and supporting the legal department with timely advice on all legal matters including court settlements, commercial, governance, and regulation.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing all legal documentation including legal drafts, contracts, leases and formal agreements
- Ensure recovery of the company’s outlay & debts
- Giving instructions and liaising with external lawyers, insureds and witnesses on matters filed in court, call for policy excess and documents in support of the claims
- Ensuring that judgments/costs are settled on time to ensure the interests of the company are protected
- Resolving complaints/disagreements with clients amicably so as to maintain a good working relationship, provide counter service to clients as well as issue policy documents
- Tracking underwriting files, registration of claims and calling of documentation in support of claims plus policy excess
- Advising the management on the status of the matters in court and on the best way forward
- Providing legal advice on all aspects of pensions/retirement benefits management and on copyrights laws
- Replying to correspondences from the insured, claimants, claimant’s advocates and our advocates, amongst others
- Ensuring that the reserves are adequate and raising payments due to service providers
Key Qualifications, Experience, Skills, and Competencies
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law
- Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law
- At least 5 years’ experience in the insurance claims handling
- Knowledge of IRA, KRA and AKI regulations
- Good knowledge of the insurance industry and the Kenyan market
- Good knowledge of MS Office
- Good organizational and presentation skills

- Delivering results and meeting customer expectations
