Job Vacancy – Chief Accountant
Our client based in Nairobi, is seeking to recruit a highly talented and dynamic professional to fill the following position:
CHIEF ACCOUNTANT
The incumbent will be responsible for overseeing financial operations, preparing and managing budgets, managing accounts staff, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, and maintaining accurate financial records to support effective decision-making within the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing and managing the annual budget, and ensuring expenditures remain within the budget.
- Planning cash flow in a dynamic environment with multiple donors and varied funding periods.
- Overseeing payroll administration, managing statutory deductions, filing annual returns, and handling staff salary advances, and medical, and welfare accounts to ensure compliance with statutory obligations.
- Preparing end-of-year financial statements, reviewing audit schedules, and liaising with external auditors for timely completion.
- Overseeing management of the institution’s investments, projects, properties, and financial assets.
- Ensuring all payments have verified supporting documents and that creditors are paid promptly.
- Liaising with the property manager for timely collection of rent as well as overseeing the prompt collection of debts.
- Maintaining accurate and comprehensive books of account.
- Meeting donor standards and deadlines by ensuring timely report submissions as required.
- Reconciling monthly invoices for the organization’s properties and ensuring timely payments.
Key Qualifications, Experience, Skills, and Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from a recognized university.
- Master’s in Business Administration (Accounting/Finance) is an added advantage
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in Accounting, 3 of which must be in a managerial position.
- Professional accounting qualification i.e. CPA-K or ACCA.
- Proven knowledge of financial management principles and statutory compliance.
- Strong analytical and leadership skills, with a detail-oriented approach.
